"Despite trade barriers that frustrate full market access, US exports to China continue to contribute to US economic growth," said John Frisbie, president of USCBC, which represents more than 200 US companies doing business in China.

"During a time of record demand for aluminum in the United States, it is critical that companies have access to a steady source of supply. That's why we continue to call for quota-free tariff exemptions for countries like Canada that play by the rules and operate as market economies," Matt Meenan, spokesman for The Aluminum Association, wrote in an email.

"Despite various uncertainties in the global political environment, Chinese companies are increasingly expanding overseas and global firms are quickly identifying opportunities from the further opening up of China's market," said Liu Bing, co-president of the Beijing-based Hengchang Litong Investment Management.

"Despite government efforts to protect minority languages, these languages are in danger of disappearing due to modernization," said the retired civil servant, who works for the provincial ethnic affairs authority.
